Sharing Ideas

When I first chatted with Emma about her session, I told her I had visioned her running through a field in a beautiful dress for her session. I was pleasantly surprised when she replied that she was envisioning the same thing for her session, as well! The months before her session, I started planning this out in my mind to ensure that it met her expectations. I had scouted some new locations, looking for something that might fit her vision, as well as mine.

Finding the Right Location

Emma checked out my Sessions Locations, a Google Album I created to share with clients who are looking for suggestions for their sessions. We both agreed upon the above location, which conveniently had a path that would allow for easy running. It was surrounded by tall grasses, wildflowers, and trees. A location perfect for a variety of looks! A variety of looks makes for an amazing gallery, which makes for gorgeous products like wall art and albums!

The Dress and Props

I planned for props, and I suggested Emma take a look at the dresses in the Vibe Photography Style Closet. The VP Style Closet is filled with basic and unique pieces that clients can borrow for their sessions or use to add to their own inspiration. She selected a few dresses from the Style Closet and chose one that ended up just being beautiful on her and perfect for this session! I had also purchased a crown (yes, a crown!) and asked if she would be willing to wear it. Of course, she said yes (she's been amazing to work with)! You might be saying to yourself, "A CROWN?!" Yes! Why not!? A senior session is not only an opportunity to capture the senior and tell their story with their sports, hobbies, and interests, but it is the perfect time to dress up and have some fun and wear something you wouldn't normally wear! When was the last time you had nice portraits? When will be the next time you do? I say have some fun with it!

The Suitcase

I have to tell you about The Suitcase. In the summer of 2023, the first year I rolled out the Vibe Photography Street Team Senior Rep Program, I had crafted a boho themed session for our first group shoot. I had arranged for an old VW Beetle, the perfect location, and asked the seniors to deck out in boho hippie attire (and boy, did they)! I was also looking for an old vintage suitcase. Ironically, Emma's mom, Christie, reached out to me and said I could have this old suitcase that was her grandmother's. Christie took it, thinking she would use it for something, but never did. She graciously gave it to me, and I used it that first summer. So I was thinking, wouldn't it be fitting to use this suitcase, Emma's great-grandmother's suitcase, in Emma's session? (See above picture.) What a treasure to add to some of her portraits!

Putting It All Together

Once we got to the location, I asked Emma what her vision was for the session, and she wanted to be photographed running away, looking over her shoulder. (Isn't she beautiful?)

After we captured her vision, we proceeded with other fun poses with flowers, a hat, a quilt, and the crown! (A little secret, I try to always give my senior girls flowers. I've been known to cut them straight from the field when in bloom). I don't always shoot natural light, but golden hour was falling upon us, and the light was hitting Emma just right, so we went with it! I'm not sorry about it at all! We got so many gorgeous images!

I had a lot of fun planning this out with Emma and crafting a session that I hope she remembers for a long time to come. Which image below is your favorite?
