After covering the DII Region 8 Track Semi-Final in Piqua in 2021, I went home and downloaded my photos as I usually do, always hoping for what I consider a "great shot." As I scanned through them quickly that evening, I didn't give the above picture a second thought. In fact, I actually thought, "meh, it's of her backside," and I kept scrolling.

It wasn't until the next morning as I looked through them again that I realized what I had captured. Yes, that may be the runner's backside, and not typically what you're aiming for, but "what is she looking at?" I asked myself. Well, it turns out, she's assessing the times of the Girls 4x200 Meter Relay on the scoreboard, and it's her team in 1st Place with their time of 1:46.99, the time that seeded them first for the Regional Finals. Some shot!

This relay team consisted of runners Lilly Ankerman, Lydia Will, Syerra Greber and Ella Jacobs. They went on to finish second in Regional Finals, punching their ticket to State. What a season they had!

I have many favorites in my catalog of sports shots I've captured over the years, and this one definitely ranks right up there solely for the story it tells. That moment in time has been preserved with this one seemingly "meh" photo.

If you want some cool snaps like this, check out my Sports Action package. I'd love to capture something really cool for you!
